Picture the rolling hills of southern Tuscany in medieval village of Montepulciano on a beautiful day with all your friends and family and the woman you love…This was the long time dream that we realized on June 25th. Getting married in Italy was easily the happiest and most memorable moment of my life! The wedding itself was over two years in the making, filled with lots of intercontinental communication, stress and ultimate joy that made it all worthwhile. After the wedding the family and friends (all 60 of us) slowly dispersed into the Italian countryside to complete our travels; Adriana and I were off to Greece for 3 weeks! Read on for more and tonight’s lineup…
Take it Ella…
We’ve got smooth sailing, sailing
Looks like every drop of rain is
gone, gone, gone
Smooth sailing, sailing
And a blue sky full of rainbows from now on - Ella Fitzgerald
The Tall Ships are here! It’s a beautiful day. The North End is bustling with summer energy. The renovations are only slightly behind schedule. We have heard from Matt and the wedding was flawless. (He is now taunting us with gorgeous pictures of sipping wine overlooking the clear blue waters of Mykonos) Our very cool new guy (Mike) is starting tonight. All sorts of good things are going on, it’s all smooth sailing…
Fennel, say hello to Dolcetto. I introduced the two the other night at the recommendation of them wine folk I work with. Roasted the hell out of the fennel and some baby eggplant. Threw in some goat cheese and crusty bread for good measure. They all got along famously. It was like they had met before. The fresh and fruity Roagna Dolcetto d’Alba 2007 complemented my savory spread well. It was smooth, maybe even “soft”. Definitely delicious. Of course I googled my new purple friend first to find out whose grapes I was about to get up close and personal with. Enter Luca Roagna. Only two years my senior and the fouth generation of Roagna to run the successful estate. With long roots in the Piedmont region the Roagnas have upheld a very classic and traditional style of Italian winemaking. Luca, if you’re reading this, you rule.
Read MoreI admit it. I don’t know a Dolcetto from a Gamay. But I will. And so will you. We’ll figure out this wine thing together. I began working at The Wine Bottega less than a month ago. The first thing I learned was⎯ boy do I have a lot to learn. But when learning involves drinking, how bad could it be?
So I’ve been tasting. Tasting everything. I’ve been swirling. Sniffing. Swishing. Spitting (it seems so wrong to spit out wine, no?). And little by little, I’m starting to retain some of this foreign language.
