Now playing at The Wine Bottega: JURA WINE!
Come with us on a little adventure to the fabled mountains of eastern France, on the border of Switzerland. Home to some of the most idiosyncratic and unusual wines you will ever taste. Made from mostly obscure, local, indigneous grape varieties including: Ploussard, Savagnin, Melon a`Queue Rouge, and Trousseau.
Of the most popular wine in this lesser known region of France, is Vin Jaune (yellow wine). Are these wines a little odd? Yes. But they make for the most interesting drinking.
At the 2nd Annual Jura Tasting in NYC, we tried everything from the musty, old wines covered in traditional Viole (veil) of yeast called “Flor” (including a ‘55 and ‘47 from Caves Jean Bourdy) to some unreal Macvin (a local fortified wine) to the new classics from the dynamic Philippe Bornard and the charismatic Stephane Tissot. And we loved every unexpected twist along the way. We dare you to find another wine region with such a distinct sense of place.
Jura! If you don’t know, now you know. Ask us to point you to the right shelf.
