Saude! Cheers to Portugal.

Think of Portugal as a One Trick Port Pony?
Portugal has so long been identified with fortified wine that the diversity of its terroir and the variety of its unique grape varietals were virtually unknown outside its borders.  Isolation does have its benefits, as the influx of international grape varietals at the expense of the indigenous, so common elsewhere, did not happen here.  Couple this richness of resources with dramatic quality improvements over the last two decades and you have a recipe for interesting, exciting, delicious and tremendous value wines! Join us tonight and journey through the Northern reaches of rainy Minho, down through the Douro, Dao, Ribatejo and finally the sun baked vineyards of the Alentejo.

I feel the need, the need for MEAD!

It was our great pleasure at The Wine Bottega to have Garth from our favorite local Meadery, Green River Ambrosia, join us this past Wednesday for our first ever Mead Fest!  We met Garth a couple months ago while preparing for an event that featured local organic agriculturalists and international music.  The Wine Bottega took part by pairing wines with local honeys and we serendipitously encountered Garth (the quintessential name for a mead brewmeister!).   Boston has a great core group of mead enthusiasts and we at The Bottega had been searching for the best way to really dive into this ancient fermented brew.  Green River Ambrosia is a three man operation located in Greenfield, Massachusetts, just a couple hours to our west.

Escape to the Islands

When you think about basking on a sunny island beach, you might picture yourself with a pina colada in hand and requisite cocktail umbrella, of course! But take a moment to imagine instead the islands of the Mediterranean. Craggy rocks leading down to foamy surf in the turquoise water, the fisherman in colorful, old wooden boats bringing in the days catch for you to enjoy that evening, simply grilled with local lemon and olive oil. Sounds pretty good doesn’t it? Experience a journey through the glass to Sardinia and Greece.  Both of these stunning Mediterranean islands have incredibly untapped wine resources, you are in for a special treat.
