I admit it. I don’t know a Dolcetto from a Gamay. But I will. And so will you. We’ll figure out this wine thing together. I began working at The Wine Bottega less than a month ago. The first thing I learned was⎯ boy do I have a lot to learn. But when learning involves drinking, how bad could it be?
So I’ve been tasting. Tasting everything. I’ve been swirling. Sniffing. Swishing. Spitting (it seems so wrong to spit out wine, no?). And little by little, I’m starting to retain some of this foreign language. Most of the time I feel like I need one of those little travel dictionaries just to understand what my coworkers are saying. I have to ask them to talk slower or repeat things (which they are always happy to do!). I carry a notebook around the store. I read about what I taste online. And knowing the story behind the bottle and the winemaker makes every sip taste even better!
I may not be able to recommend the perfect accomplice to your Bolognese just yet but stay tuned. If I miss you at the Bottega, I will leave some notes on this page with all of my latest discoveries. Salute!

Located in Boston’s North End, along the Historic Freedom Trail, The Wine Bottega is dedicated to discovering and sharing small production, hand-crafted wines from around the globe. Yes, she does! It’s Stephanie and you can read more about her on the About Us page in her staff bio or swing by the store and say hello.
